Occasionally, BioStar installation stops during BioStar ExpressSetup and BioStar ServerSetup. In this document, we will guide you how to resolve the problem when Microsoft SQL 2005 Setup fails under Windows 7 64 bits.
Please check if you get one of these error messages below (Figure 1).
The SQL Server service failed to start for more information, see the SQL Server Books online topics, “How to : View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files” and “Start SQL Server Manually.”

1. Go to Control Panel > Uninstall a program.
Make sure all below files are installed.
If there is any program missing, please go to next section. If no, please go to Run DB Setup.exe.

1. Install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 4.
1. Install Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express 64bit.
1. Go to [C:\Program Files\BioStar\server] and run [DBSetup.exe].
When DBSetup.exe runs successfully, everything is setup correctly.
If not, please check the next step. Usually, you will receive an error message like Figure 3.
DBSetup: Cannot connect to SQL Server.

1. Go to Start > All programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > Configuration Tool > SQL Server Configuration Manager.
Check if the status are Running or Stopped.
Figure 4 shows SQL Server (BSSEVER) as stopped. All Servers should be Running.

1. Right click the server then click Properties.
2. Click Start to start the service.

1. Go to Start > All programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > SQL Server Management Studio Express.
2. Check the Server name and click Connect. Connection should be made.
1. Go to C:\Program Files\BioStar\server and run DBSetup.exe.
2. Check for the database name. Database name should be same as “Server name” in Run Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express.
1. Go to Start > All programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > SQL Server Management Studio Express.
2. BioStar folder should be in Databases.

1. Click Start to see if BioStar Server runs.
